According to information released on Wednesday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has set October 8 as the date for the province elections for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
New Date Announced for KP Elections Election Commission of Pakistan

The election schedule would be published in due order, according to the ECP notification, dated March 27. The election program would be released in due order, according to the ECP notification. The ECP made its judgement after KP Governor Ghulam Ali on Friday suggested that KP elections also take place in his province on October 8.
After the dissolution of the provincial assemblies in January, the Supreme Court ruled on March 1 that Punjab elections and KP elections must take place within 90 days, or on a date that from the constitutionally mandated deadline. The governor stated that the same date was suggested for holding KP elections in the interest of the greater good since the ECP recently postponed elections in Punjab and declared Oct. 8 as the new date.
He had stated that he wanted free, fair, and peaceful elections in the province and that the apex court’s orders would be completely implemented. However, he added, citizens of tribal districts were protesting the holding of general elections prior to the release of new census results.
The joint government set up many barriers, but on January 14 and January 18, the assemblies for Punjab and KP were both dissolved. Elections must be held in accordance with the legislation 90 days after the dissolution of assemblies.
That means the deadlines for conducting general elections for the Punjab and KP assemblies were April 14 and April 17, respectively. However, after receiving the ECP’s proposal, the two governors advised the commission to consult stakeholders rather than set the dates for the elections.
